Sisi Ni Ndugu Tanzania Community in DC, Maryland & Virginia
Together in Life and Death
Sisi Ni Ndugu is a Tanzanian community-based organization serving members in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. Our community has faced the difficult challenges of bereavement, particularly when it comes to repatriating loved ones who have passed away. Recognizing this need, compassionate members of our community came together to form a group dedicated to supporting families during these trying times.
In some cases, Tanzanians who passed away in the U.S. had no immediate family present. Guided by the spirit of umoja (unity) and solidarity, Sisi Ni Ndugu is committed to mobilizing resources and standing together, ensuring that every Tanzanian who passes away in the U.S. is accorded the dignity of being laid to rest in their homeland.
What We Do
Losing a loved one is never easy. For many families, the additional financial and logistical burden of repatriation to Tanzania can feel overwhelming. While friends and extended family often provide emotional and financial support, the costs can still be a heavy burden to bear.
At Sisi Ni Ndugu, we believe in the power of community. Our initiative addresses these challenges by building a strong, organized support system for Tanzanians living in the DMV area. We maintain a registered membership database and come together to provide critical assistance when tragedy strikes.
Through collective contributions, we aim to raise enough funds for the next of kin of any registered member who passes away. This ensures that no family bears the burden alone and that every Tanzanian is accorded the respect and dignity they deserve.
Beyond financial assistance, our network fosters togetherness and upholds the values of compassion, unity, and cultural pride. We stand side by side in times of need because, at Sisi Ni Ndugu, we are more than a community—we are family’
How It Works
Register With Us
Become a member by providing your personal details, including information about your dependents and next of kin. Once your information is verified, you will receive a unique registration number confirming your membership.
Notification of Bereavement
When we are notified of the passing of a registered member, Sisi Ni Ndugu immediately launches a support campaign. Members are informed of the bereavement, including the contribution amount and deadlines. The system automatically calculates each member’s contribution.
Contributions and Payment
At the conclusion of the campaign, the bereaved will provide Sisi Ni Ndugu management with an updated record of all contributing members. Management will then verify contributions from all registered members. All member information will remain confidential at all times, and details about dependents and next of kin can be updated at any time or whenever necessary.
Sisi Ni Ndugu Membership
Sisi Ni Ndugu membership is open to all Tanzanians, their descendants, and spouses of Tanzanian citizens residing in the DC, MD & Virginia
